The Spirit of Harriet Tubman

The Spirit of Harriet Tubman is a one-woman play about the leader of the Underground Railroad, Harriet Tubman.  Ms. Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist who was born into slavery in the early 1820’s.  She is known for her work in fighting for equality and justice as evidenced by her role in the Underground Railroad where she led enslaved people to freedom.  Harriet Tubman was also a supporter of the women’s suffrage movement.

Harriet Tubman is portrayed by Diane Faison, who channels the essence of this important figure of American history.  Ms. Faison is a retired teacher with a career in education spanning more than 30 years.  She is a celebrated actress and storyteller, visual artist, speaker and writer with a BA degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham. Her graduate studies were at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and Longwood University in Farmville, VA.
