Doubt

Father Brendan Flynn, a thirty-something Catholic priest is assigned to St. Nicholas Parish, the Bronx, New York. The likable assistant pastor enjoys playing basketball with the boys of the school until it is reported that one boy returned to class with wine on his breath, Sister Aloysius, school principal, suspects Father Flynn of inappropriate relations with the student and undertakes her own investigation of the priest’s record before confronting him. Father Flynn insists he is innocent.

Doubt by John Patrick Shanley, a gripping and powerful drama of righteous suspicion and passionate denial. Playwright Shanley presents his characters with full empathy, and the ambiguity introduced by the conflict sustains doubts about the moral certainty of all involved. The play will be presented in The Mountcastle Forum, Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts, September 29, 30, and October 6 and 7 at 7:30 pm with matinee October 1 and 8 at 2:00 pm.
